Creating Calm Through Miniatures
A Mindful Start to the School Year
During the first PA Day of the school year, our group began the day with a calming, creative experience — building miniatures. This hands-on art form, practiced by people of all ages, offers a beautiful way to slow down, focus, and express mindfulness through art.
We started the morning with gentle grounding and mindfulness exercises, followed by a group reflection on sacred and comforting spaces. Participants shared memories of places and objects that bring them peace, then used these inspirations to craft their very own miniature “safe spaces” to take home.
Each child poured care and imagination into their creations — from cozy reading nooks to treasured family spaces. One participant even recreated a favorite corner of their grandmother’s barn! These miniatures now serve as visual reminders of calm and comfort, offering a personal tool to help children find their center whenever they need it.
The result? A morning filled with creativity, connection, and heartfelt stories. Children proudly shared their miniatures with one another — and couldn’t wait to show them off to their families at pick-up!
